Major expansion at Brouwerij Van Steenberge

Major expansion at Brouwerij Van Steenberge

Although the Belgian beer market has consistently shrunk over the years, Flemish beer export is doing well. In fact, very well. Brewery Van Steenberge is currently investing approximately 9 million euros in extensions. This will double the brewery’s production capacity. This considerable investment comes as a result of the growing export demand for quality, speciality beers.

The brewery is flourishing. This has led to the acquisition of additional 500 and 1,000 hectolitre tanks. The bottling plant is also being expanded with a bottle rinser and a new muselet machine, which will increase bottling capacity from 3,000 to 9,000 bottles per hour.

Water and energy conservation

In line with its sustainability goals, the brewery will install a water-conserving cleaning system in the new cold block – which comes in between the brewing and bottling stages – and will only use rainwater for cleaning in the sanitary block and surroundings. The improved refrigeration process, with individually cooled tanks, will also produce considerable energy savings.

This is in line with the trend towards reduced energy and water consumption per beer, to which Van Steenberge has been committed for years.

Employee welfare

These investments not only increase the efficiency of the production process, they also enhance employee well-being.  The new premises are high-ceilinged and well-lit. The load on the plumbing installation will be reduced.  Added ingredients will be dosed automatically and the air extraction system will be optimised. There will also be a new sanitary section with showers.

Guaranteed quality

For 6 generations the brewery has stood for pure quality and inspired craftsmanship. A new laboratory will guarantee ongoing control of all the parameters required to meet our customers’ strictest quality expectations.

The extension work has commenced and will be completed in September 2016, when visitors to our brewery in Ertvelde can expect a warm welcome in our brand-new reception area.
